One of those "deals"

Because my brother had been forking up the previous two dinners that we've had (we don't go out for dinner often together anymore because someone's more occupied with gf and friends and photogs and stuff), buying those online deals, when he sent me the link to this one, I took the very unsubtle hint and bought it for us.

It was a deal for two at Dan's House, a newly opened Chinese restaurant near China Town. Location's a little tricky because you need to go up the lift to find it, but there is a giant sign right outside at the streets, so it's not too bad.

The food? Hm... very artistic and interesting, and I do approve of the flavors so it's a pass!

The deal was basically two entrees, a soup, peking duck course, and one dessert to share which wasn't bad at all. You get to choose which entrees as well, and we chose the tofu and sashimi, which was served cold with a spicy sauce.

Our second entree looked fantastic and was really interesting. Both being fans of duck (we just can't get enough of duck!) we chose this sugar cane smoked duck breast with lychee and mango jelly. I'm not too sure about eating the two together, but duck does generally go quite well with sweet things, like plum sauce... I preferred eating them two separately though.

Love the presentation, love the duck, but notice how if you're sharing this with two people, one person will be missing a cucumber slice? :D Just a random thought while eating, haha. Because the entrees were cold, I kinda delved straight to the peking duck first and left this after eating one... then I got too full after having another one had my brother finish my last one for me.

On the exception of the added parsley, this soup was really good too. It's actually part of the peking duck course... a duck soup with some veggies inside... on the menu it's Dan's Signature Duck Soup and picture showed tofu, but I don't really care about missing tofu.

Peking duck came with two different cuts, apparently for the different texture. Usually peking duck only comes with the crispy skin for wrapping inside the pancake, but I like more meat.

At home, my dad will buy a whole roast duck from Asian shops, telling them not to cut it, put the whole duck in the oven to crisp up the skin and we'd have our own peking duck at home- economic style. It's so much cheaper, and we get the whole freaking duck to ourselves! It's like an all-you-can-eat peking duck feast for less than half the cost of eating out... of course, for the pancake wrap, we use pretty thick wraps, makes it easier to become full.

I think Dan's House pride themselves for being artistic and I gotta say, their dishes are very prettily presented.

Damn, I'm craving peking duck now.

Really like how their skin is super thin, makes it all the more authentic, and seriously, can never go wrong with duck. I make it a point to try duck in any restaurant that serves it. Who wants beef or steak right, it's all about duck! .... or pork belly.... XD

We waited a long long time for this, but it's ok because we rocked up to Dan's House at 6pm despite booking for 6:30pm. They let us in without complaint and the food prior to the dessert arrived quickly (though not in order, but 'sok too). Service... well, efficient, don't expect much of a reply if you ask for something. It'd be done for you, but without a word, kinda like being served by mute staff.

This is their toffee apple, and it's the most creative toffee apple I've ever seen. It can rival maccas' apple pie! They provide a bowl of cold water, and you're meant to dip the toffee apple pieces into the water to harder the caramel before eating. My brother did mention that instead of using twigs to hold the spun toffee, they could have used chocolate sticks or something. Maybe chocolate sticks are too fragile, and they'd melt upon contact with the hot toffee.. this is quite practical, but rubber band to hold the sticks together are a bit ugly.... but I'm not complaining! Really, I loved this dish, deep fried apple fritters with caramel, what's there not to love!

We went for Vivid sighting after dinner... next up! See you tomorrow.
